WCNS speak at Glasgow University
by Spacewood on Jan.21, 2011, under Glasgow, Graphic Design, Shout Out
I’m doing a talk at Glasgow University on effective poster design and what rules to follow to make your poster memorable. This is part of their Media Week and I’ll be focussing on what people who are starting out in design, should remember when it comes to making their work effective, memorable and any no-no’s they must avoid. I’ll then go on to a Photoshop tutorial to show some tricks to remember (if you have a laptop with PS, feel free to bring along). No experience necessary and if you’re looking to learn new things then do join.
It’s free and it starts at 1pm 21/01 in the Williams Room, John Macintyre Building – http://goo.gl/maps/cJb0
I should also note, the above poster is fictional (for now).

Glasgow Fixie Stickers
by Spacewood on Oct.18, 2010, under Design, Glasgow, Shout Out
If you ride fixed gear or single speed in Glasgow, then I’ve designed a sheet of stickers for you. I’ve got 100 sheets to give away and if you’re interested, leave a comment and we can arrange something. If you’re not already on the site glasgowfgss.com, then head on over. Lots of fixie riders on it arranging cruises, meet ups, fixed beers and loads of other good things.
In case you’re wondering, yes they’re free.

Recoat’s 3rd Birthday
by Spacewood on Aug.06, 2010, under Art, Glasgow, Graffiti, Shout Out
Friday passed, saw the celebration of Recoat Gallery’s 3rd Birthday. To mark this special occasion, artist’s from their recent Fool’s Gold tour headed up to paint and exhibit some pieces. One of the highlights of the show came from Insa‘s and Inkie‘s massive piece in the alleyway. The background was painted four times and a series of photo’s taken by WCNS’s Alex Martin, transformed it into an animated GIF. Check out more of these grafitti gifs over at Insa’s blog. TenTen from Hamburg and Veuch from Belgium also jetted in, dodged the neds and painted the other half of the alley with their unique style and really completed the piece.
To complete the event, Insa painted a Mercedes Benz and this was offered as a prize through the raffle. Congratulations to Nick Mangos, who scored the winning ticket – not bad for £1.50! Can’t wait to see it driving around Glasgow.
We would like to offer a big congratulations to Amy and Ali (above), owners of Recoat. We wish them twice as much success for the next three years as the past three have provided. Be sure to check out the Fool’s Gold video tour below, made possible by them and new Glasgow productions company Pigeon Promotions.
There are also more photos from the night, over at the fashion blog, Style Scanner.

by Spacewood on Jun.07, 2010, under Glasgow, Shout Out
The Glasgow Cyclying Festival will be kicking off next Saturday, which should prove to be a fantastic week of two wheeled adventure for all. There’s BBQs, prizes, film, competitions and much more planned over the week, so check the itinary below and get involved.

by Spacewood on Apr.01, 2010, under Glasgow, Music, Shout Out
This arrived in the post this morning from Fabric. Watch this space for a full review and maybe even a little sample (if I’m allowed). It’s seriously a top knotch Twitch & Wilkes album and it’s totally hyping me up for this long weekend ahead. Also, in case you’re wondering, yes, it does love your ears. Very, very much.
