Mixed Up Afternoon
by Spacewood on Mar.04, 2011, under Glasgow, Mixtape, Music

Being the skilled man he is, when it comes to mixing, he wrapped them up in a tidy little mixtape for WCNS and all you lovely people. We Can Never Stop Mixtape 2
by Spacewood on Jun.30, 2010, under Glasgow, Mixtape, Music
The second instalment of, the exclusive WCNS mixes, is provided by one half of the RPZ outfit, Hushpuppy. His mix, Sunshine Pop Happening, has opted for an off-kilter, summer vibe using classics and rarities from the 1960s. He has also included a very interesting piece on his views of the movement, music and culture surround the 60s and our perception of it (see below the player).
I think it’s good to hear something different, especially when combining modern mixing techniques with music, totally not designed with that in mind. We hope you enjoy it and also be sure to check out the first in the series, Mathew Craig’s Synthia.

The Sight Below Mix
by Spacewood on May.26, 2010, under Mixtape
I heard this mix of 80s/90s dream pop, synth lushness and textured heavenly tracks over at the ever reliable ISO50. I’m a real sucker for music like this. I love the impurities in the recordings, the early experimental confidence and that nostalgic path which was firmly laid into a new and unknown place in music.
The mix is by The Sight Below and was recorded for Fact Magazine.

Washed Out Mix
by Spacewood on Mar.30, 2010, under Beyond, Mixtape
Just heard this really nice mix by Washed Out over at the ISO50 site. The music Washed Out produces, relies heavily on the synths and often has a dislodged, old time quality to the sound. A lot like chillwave (I posted some examples here). If this is your bag, then this won’t fail in pleasing you. It’s free to download, so get over there and swoop up a copy.
Arch M – Bedrm Band at Caf NVA (edit)
The Samps – Magnetic Thys
Samiyam – Wrap Up
Toro Y Moi – Brubek

Night Dreams
by Spacewood on Feb.19, 2010, under Glasgow, Mixtape, Music, Nights Out
Night Dreams is a listening concept presented and curated by Dave Barbarossa (Fun Size, Curious Curious) and Hushpuppy (RPZ, Death Disco).
Both Dave Barbarossa and Hushpuppy are frequent players on the Glasgow club scene at various events – Huntley’s and Palmers, RPZ, Death Disco, Fun Size, Optimo and many others. However, both felt there was a distinct lack of opportunity in their sets to delve into the more interesting corners of their musical taste and present something that is a fraction out of the ordinary – if not totally off the planet – nor indeed was there anywhere where music fans and adventurous club-kids could travel to hear such sounds.
It was out of this realisation that NIGHT DREAMS was born. Night Dreams is designed to fill the gap that exists for a pre-club where a genuinely wild and varied collection of music can be heard that is interesting, stimulating and entertaining. Sounds that though might be danceable are not necessarily about playing straight forward club tracks and dance hits.
The proposed soundtrack at NIGHT DREAMS will include all things cosmic – rock, funk, synths, jazz, as well as punk, new wave, progressive electronics, psych, kraut rock, weird pop, foreign disco avant-garde and all manner of difficult listening. The ambiance will be complemented with soothing sci-fi video loops and calming fragrances (to sooth the rattle of the odd burst of jarring artifical sound).
The line up will be supplemented on the 13th March by the input of James Pole from the well know “Northern Lights” radio show on deepfrequency.com, who will be encouraged to come up with a set to challenge and delight the ears of the listener.
Bradford Cox Mix
by Spacewood on Jan.30, 2010, under Mixtape, Music
Deerhunter and Atlas Sound genius, Bradford Cox released another really nice mix (below). Perfect if you want some easy listening, folky unobtrusive music to work/chill to-more to download here. I was recently impressed to learn, that his lyrics are not pre wrote. He sings by stream of conciousness. I don’t know how accurate that is, however, as wikipedia can’t always be taken for word. If you haven’t heard his music before, check out these tracks under Atlas Sound and Deerhunter.
