I don’t really run the IOTD feature anymore seeing as there are images constantly being pushed through our Tumblr feed, but i’ll make an exception.

Taken by WCNS contributor David Cooper of fellow Shetland photographer Benji Cluness killing time with petrol bombs.

This shot was taken from a photojournalism piece, covering poverty within white South Africa. Set in Coronation Park, many of the 400 squatters see themselves, victims of ‘reverse apartheid’. Race tends to play a large part in poverty in Africa, but this also shows that it’s a human issue.

I’ve not been very good with keeping up with the Image Of The Day chapter. Apologies.

During this current Age of Attention, many find it difficult to have their imagination stretch to receive entertainment and enjoyment from birds and nature. Maybe that’s what Maurizio Bongiovanni is portraying here. The bird calling out and the stretch marks meeting us. Sorry mate, got Playstation.

Boru O’Brien O’Connell (b. 1979) lives and works in Brooklyn, NYC.

At first, this may not seem like a creative photograph, worthy of Image Of The Day. It’s what’s captured which makes it so impressive.

This image is taken from a Christian Dior fashion shoot in Soviet Russia in the late 50s. The contrast between the beautiful and elegant Parisian models against the bland and restrained style of the locals is quite impressive. Further in the collection you can see the wonder and disbelief of the Russian woman as they watch the Dior models and the lifestyle they embody. Quite sad really.
