Jamie McIntyre

by Spacewood on Jun.08, 2010, under Edinburgh, Graphic Design

“A proposal for the re-release of Booka Shade’s first ever three records. The covers were hand screen-printed black on black and the outer slip case stitched from cotton then embroidered with their existing logotype.” Illustrations by Matthew Swan

“I created a storytelling corner for adults and a publication to accompany this. The idea behind the project was to highlight the evident shift that childhood has made in past years: From being creative, making things and exploring, to now being over-powered by console gaming and the internet.”

“This was a self-initiated project. I wanted to explore type and craft using cheap materials over a space of time.”

Glasgow born, Jamie McIntyre, graduated with a First Class Honours in Graphic Design from Edinburgh College of Art. He is one of the founding members of the influential These Peöple collective. “I like to get away from the stereo-typical role of a Graphic Designer and his laptop when designing, and enjoy collaborating with others and exploring the possibilities of including a variety of working methods within my discipline of design.”

Jamie completed a summer internship at Snask in Stockholm last summer, developing a love for Scandinavian design as well as working in a small, alternative agency environment. Jamie has big ambitions for the future, where he hopes to set up his own agency and work in Berlin or Amsterdam.

2014 Commonwealth Games Brand

by Spacewood on Mar.03, 2010, under Advertisement, Glasgow, Graphic Design

The observant among you may have noticed posters, bearing the above graphics, around Glasgow. Beginning with the red, after a while all the red posters were covered with the orange, again, they were then replaced with blue until in the last 5/6 days, the green ones appeared, with the message “Launch 08/03/10″.

This can be a very effective marketing technique, as it cultivates peoples minds. By them noticing the bold graphic and the obvious change over time, means everytime they see it, they question “what is that?” The more they question, the more they strive for an answer and systematically, the more likely it is to remain in their mind.

As Sub Club did the same, with their reopen after the fire, I was expecting these posters to reveal a new club night with a great budget behind them. I was therefore, surprised to find out that it’s to represent the countdown to the reveal of the new Commonwealth Games 2014 brand identity. Marque Creative have done a great job here. If this is the creative for the launch, what do they have in store for the final product? I’m glad the Commonwealth Games commity also opted for this route. It shows they are willing to experiment with refreshing marketing techniques and approach at unusual angles-interesting for such an extensive operation.

Launch date for the creative work, is 08/03/10.

Folio Update

by Spacewood on Feb.27, 2010, under Glasgow, Graphic Design, Nights Out, Shout Out

I added a few new pieces to my folio. First flyer is for an exciting new night, I Am, starting in Sub Club. Expect non stop electrickery and mad audio wizardry.

Wibble Wobble is also a new night in the pipeline. This will fill the niche market for dubstep and fidget and will prove to be heaps of fun.

I’ve also been working on an iPhone app for a company in South Africa. I’ll put some screen grabs of that up on Monday.
