Night Dreams
by Spacewood on Feb.19, 2010, under Glasgow, Mixtape, Music, Nights Out
Night Dreams is a listening concept presented and curated by Dave Barbarossa (Fun Size, Curious Curious) and Hushpuppy (RPZ, Death Disco).
Both Dave Barbarossa and Hushpuppy are frequent players on the Glasgow club scene at various events – Huntley’s and Palmers, RPZ, Death Disco, Fun Size, Optimo and many others. However, both felt there was a distinct lack of opportunity in their sets to delve into the more interesting corners of their musical taste and present something that is a fraction out of the ordinary – if not totally off the planet – nor indeed was there anywhere where music fans and adventurous club-kids could travel to hear such sounds.
It was out of this realisation that NIGHT DREAMS was born. Night Dreams is designed to fill the gap that exists for a pre-club where a genuinely wild and varied collection of music can be heard that is interesting, stimulating and entertaining. Sounds that though might be danceable are not necessarily about playing straight forward club tracks and dance hits.
The proposed soundtrack at NIGHT DREAMS will include all things cosmic – rock, funk, synths, jazz, as well as punk, new wave, progressive electronics, psych, kraut rock, weird pop, foreign disco avant-garde and all manner of difficult listening. The ambiance will be complemented with soothing sci-fi video loops and calming fragrances (to sooth the rattle of the odd burst of jarring artifical sound).
The line up will be supplemented on the 13th March by the input of James Pole from the well know “Northern Lights” radio show on deepfrequency.com, who will be encouraged to come up with a set to challenge and delight the ears of the listener.
Luke Winter

Luke is joining us in Glasgow as he finishes his English degree at Glasgow University. Whilst here, he has been kind enough to share his very impressive folio.
His work has been featured in Vice Magazine, The Skinny and The Big Issue. In 2008, he was featured alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary photography, including Ryan McGinley, Jerry Hsu and Patrick O’Dell when he was part of Tim Barber’s Various Photographs-New York Photo Festival.
What makes this all the more impressive, is that he’s never studied photography and he’s only 21. A very bright and intresting future lies ahead, for this talented photographer.

There’s a lot of fantastic work being created right now and there seems to be a lot of energy, excitement and passion surrounding the current scene. It’s a lot for one guy to cover and that is why I am reaching out to you.
I’m looking for people who know their stuff, about the arts in Glasgow & Edinburgh. You could be a musician, make up artist, stylist, designer, artist, photographer, film maker it doesn’t matter-I’m looking for interesting people who are willing to share their knowledge with everyone else in the community via blog posting. In return you’ll be part of the best new site in Scotland, get access to the best parties, some limited edition goodies but most importantly you’ll be acting as a megaphone for others voices and thus helping the community grow stronger, more diverse and more vibrant.
If your interested, contact me via the form here.
Cheers,
Chris

Jonny Burke seems to have the skill to be able to capture a moment in time and then portray it through his camera to the rest of the world, as one of fun. Going through his Flickr, I couldn’t help but interpret the images as unpretentious, welcoming, natural and friendly photos. Photos taken in clubs, weren’t portraying madness, hysteria and loudness. To me, it was more intimate moments of pleasure and self contained entertainment. This photo sums it up for me. It deserves a mention, taken during Thunder Disco Club (apologies on size, I couldn’t get a larger image).

Goodd are a fantastic wee independent store located just near St Andrew Square. They specialise in contemporary designs of furniture, lighting and unusual objects from top designers and also recent graduates. They also have gallery space for both private and public viewings. To me, Alex Martin‘s photographs tend to capture a certain simple, honest and ambient moment in time. There’s something organic and at ease, about them.
