Three Gigs In March You Should Go To

by Spacewood on Feb.22, 2010, under Edinburgh, Gigs, Glasgow, Music

Seems to be March is going to be an ace little month for gigs this year. Not only is the massive Subcity 15th Birthday Party blowing the doors on the first Saturday night the Arches reopens, but there are a few other shiny gems aswell…

Floating Points were introduced to me about a month ago. Their Vacuum EP is an excellent little purchase, which features effortless whizzes, drones and feet tapping beats it’s a cracking choice for any mood you’re in. They are playing March 5th for Numbers at Sub Club, alongside Kode9 and Martyn. Tickets are £12.

Featured on the Kitsuné Maison Compilation 8 album, Memory Tapes released Seek Magic. Dream pop, glitch pop, summer time on a disc, call it what you will-it’s great. Warbled, lucullan, distorted, organic electronic recording matched up with Dayve Hawk’s soothing vocals creates, quite frankly, a flawless album. Catch it in Stereo on March 12th for a measly 7 punts.

No introduction is really needed. It’s a no-brainer it’s Four Tet. You just go! Playing in the Bongo Club in Edinburgh on March 13th for £12.

Psst…

by Spacewood on Feb.17, 2010, under Edinburgh, Glasgow, Shout Out

There’s a lot of fantastic work being created right now and there seems to be a lot of energy, excitement and passion surrounding the current scene. It’s a lot for one guy to cover and that is why I am reaching out to you.

I’m looking for people who know their stuff, about the arts in Glasgow & Edinburgh. You could be a musician, make up artist, stylist, designer, artist, photographer, film maker it doesn’t matter-I’m looking for interesting people who are willing to share their knowledge with everyone else in the community via blog posting. In return you’ll be part of the best new site in Scotland, get access to the best parties, some limited edition goodies but most importantly you’ll be acting as a megaphone for others voices and thus helping the community grow stronger, more diverse and more vibrant.

If your interested, contact me via the form here.

Cheers,

Chris

Darran Barton

by Spacewood on Feb.15, 2010, under Edinburgh, Photography

I’ve known Darran for about 5 years now and I’ve always enjoyed his work, company, inspiration & his ability to realise goals and ambitions. What pleases me most about his work are the dream like qualities they tend to capture. A small snippet in time of hazy colour, charm, character and life.  Recently his work has developed into a very natural style, rarely using flash-instead, using the sun as much as possible.
“I aim to capture movement, energy and a part of the beauty and harmony of the world we live in”, he says.

He graduated 4 years ago from the MET college in Glasgow then spend a further 2 years throughout Scotland and London assisting and thus learning more. He now shoots professionally and has been doing so for the past two years. His clients include Edinburgh City Council, Scotland on Sunday, I On Magazine, Borne Magazine, The Red Cross and Amnesty International-fantastic acheivments in such a short period of time. You can view his folio here.
