This screen printed poster is the resolution of a personal project, where I explored the ideas of the Chaos Theory and the Butterfly Effect. I removed the word ”nothing” with a hole puncher, and then used the holes removed to create the word “something”, playing on the idea that something can come out of nothing.

I wanted to produce a calendar for 2010 that would encourage you to do something with the year, so I produced a less conventional calendar that acted as a countdown that faded as each page was torn off.

Edinburgh based graphic design agency Touch, set a brief to create a viral advert for them. I wanted to highlight that the company try to make the most out of paper, and also wanted to play on the idea of touch, by creating this stop motion animation.

20 year old Edinburgh College of Art student, Jamie Scott, moved from Peebles in the Scottish Borders to Edinburgh in 2007 to begin his foundation course, before specializing in Graphic Design the following year. He likes to work in a broad way, whether that be spending time in the print workshop or working digitally. For him the most important thing is having a concept that he can immerse himself in and have fun with; his most recent project being a personal one where he researched into the Chaos Theory and spent hours with a hole puncher. Jamie recently completed a work placement at Project in Edinburgh, and will be beginning his final year of studies later this month.

Emma Crichton recently graduated with a First Class BA Hons Degree in Photography from Edinburgh College of Art. Experimenting with different subject matter she is interested in the relationship between people, objects and nature. In terms of the aesthetic, the physical and the emotional.

Emma is currently exhibiting her series ‘I started to laugh…’ in Street Level Gallery Glasgow as part of the group exhibition ‘Futureproof’ which showcases the work of emerging photographers from around Scotland.

Emma says “The images I have made for this series are nostalgic. I am photographing people that I want to hold on to, who are important to me and who I can’t be with all the time. The other elements I have photographed such as the still-lives, animals and landscapes are for me all ultimately related to one another.”

Last month, we brought you news that, Glasgow School of Art graduate, Ian Guy had been nominated for his redesign of the intravenous valve system. Ian’s design is deservedly raising a few eyebrows and out of 500 candidates, made it through to the final 20 and is the only Scot. What impresses me most about Vitamins, is the way they are totally bucking the trend for club nights in the city. Time and time again, the same nights come and go, playing the same selection of music in the same selection of venues. Vitamins were tired of that, and decided that after all, is there really anything stopping them pushing the boundaries? They launched 2 months ago with their own interpretation of what a club night should be – a massive party utilising two stripped out west end tenements, crammed full with the dance hungry and a host of top drawer DJs playing well past the bed time. The result, a baptism of gold granting them an enviable, highly impressive first impression, and a list of people craving for more.

Round two, and Vitamins are raising the game once more. This time to a secret location in a beautiful forrest in the Scottish countryside. The lineup, in true Vitamins style is a multi-genred beast of DJ sets, one off collabs and live performances to last from arrival to departure. Who’s that you cry? This is who:

Try and find something out about Vondelpark – it’s not going to happen. A very elusive band that don’t have a Myspace let alone a website, but surely, that makes it all the more treasured? I’m loving that woozy, two-step, downtempo melody paired with his strained and somewhat sinister sounding vocals – especially in the track, Start Life.

The debut EP ‘Sauna’ comes out this October.

OMT = 3 Mix

I’ve been a fan of Erik Hamline’s work for quite some time now. This talented 23 year old from Minnesota, has an imprssive folio over at woodsandweather.com and also runs his own screen printing and design studiio at steadyprintshop.com. I’m a sucker for this style and would really love to see more work like this, coming out the UK.

Friday passed, saw the celebration of Recoat Gallery’s 3rd Birthday. To mark this special occasion, artist’s from their recent Fool’s Gold tour headed up to paint and exhibit some pieces. One of the highlights of the show came from Insa‘s and Inkie‘s massive piece in the alleyway. The background was painted four times and a series of photo’s taken by WCNS’s Alex Martin, transformed it into an animated GIF. Check out more of these grafitti gifs over at Insa’s blog. TenTen from Hamburg and Veuch from Belgium also jetted in, dodged the neds and painted the other half of the alley with their unique style and really completed the piece.

To complete the event, Insa painted a Mercedes Benz and this was offered as a prize through the raffle. Congratulations to Nick Mangos, who scored the winning ticket – not bad for £1.50! Can’t wait to see it driving around Glasgow.

We would like to offer a big congratulations to Amy and Ali (above), owners of Recoat. We wish them twice as much success for the next three years as the past three have provided.
